There is a lot of focus now on looking beyond Product Simulation into the world of Manufacturing Simulation which make these products. There are various terms that describe this world - Digital Manufacturing, Digital Factory, Virtual Machines, etc.
There is an excellent overview article on this topic in the Oct. 2007 issue of SME's Manufacturing Engineering magazine. It not only describes the technologies available from the major vendors, Dassault & UGS/Siemens, but also show cases how General Motors is using these technologies in a real world environment on the factory floor. These technologies will become mainstream very quickly as the benefits are realized and the price point becomes more affordable.
